Lightning Dice Odds Explained: Totals, Multipliers and What to Check

How Evolution's Lightning Dice works, the exact chance of every three-dice total from 3 to 18, how Low, High, Any Double and Any Triple can be checked, and what Lightning multipliers do and don't change.

Guide, published

Lightning Dice is Evolution’s three-dice game with a twist. The dice don’t come from a shaker: the host drops them through a see-through maze, and before each drop some bet spots are charged with Lightning multipliers. You bet on the total.

Under the show, it’s simple maths: three dice, 216 equally likely results. This guide works out how often each total comes up and how to check any bet in the game. It is a close cousin of Sic Bo, and the multipliers work in the same spirit as Lightning Roulette.

How Lightning Dice works

From Evolution’s game page:

  • “Three dice are dropped through a transparent Lightning Tower filled with obstacles, and your goal is to predict the total sum of the three dice once they come to rest.”
  • “Place your bet on the total sum – from 3 to 18 – or choose options like Low, High, Any Double, or Any Triple. Bet on as many outcomes as you like, each offering its own payout potential.”
  • “Once betting closes, two to four bet spots are randomly struck by Lightning multipliers, each offering boosted payouts that can reach up to 1000x.”
  • The host “places the dice at the top of the Lightning Tower and pulls the lever”, and the dice fall through a “three-section vertical maze”.
  • “You win if you correctly predicted the total sum of all three dice and placed a bet on the corresponding number or range. If the winning bet spot was charged with a Lightning multiplier, your payout is boosted accordingly.”

A round, then:

  1. Betting. You place chips on totals and/or the range bets.
  2. Lightning. Two to four spots get a multiplier.
  3. The drop. The dice tumble through the tower and settle.
  4. Settlement. Winning spots pay their normal payout, or the boosted one if struck.

How the numbers were worked out

Each die has 6 faces, so three dice give 6 × 6 × 6 = 216 results, each equally likely. The maze makes the drop look random in a showy way, but a fair die still has six equal faces. All chances below are our own count; Evolution’s game page doesn’t publish them, and it doesn’t publish the paytable or RTP either.

To check a payout from the in-game paytable:

House edge = 1 − (chance of winning × (payout + 1))

A bet that wins 12.5% of the time and pays 6 to 1 returns 0.125 × 7 = 0.875 on average, an edge of 12.5%. That figure is example only.

Every total, 3 to 18

4 or 1731.39%71 to 1
5 or 1662.78%35 to 1
6 or 15104.63%20.6 to 1
7 or 14156.94%13.4 to 1
8 or 13219.72%9.3 to 1
9 or 122511.57%7.6 to 1
10 or 112712.50%7 to 1

The totals are symmetrical: 3 is as likely as 18, 10 as likely as 11. Middle totals come up most because there are more ways to make them. A total of 3 needs 1-1-1; a total of 10 can be 1-3-6, 2-4-4, 3-3-4 and others, in any order, 27 ways in all.

Unlike Evolution’s Super Sic Bo grid, which runs from 4 to 17, Lightning Dice lets you bet on 3 and 18 as well.

Low and High

Evolution’s page names Low and High bets but doesn’t say which totals each covers or whether triples are excluded. So rather than guess, here is the running count you need to check any range the game uses:

Total up toWays (of 216)Chance
85625.9%
98137.5%
1010850.0%
1113562.5%

For example, a range of 3 to 10 covers exactly half the results (108 of 216), and 11 to 18 the other half. If the game removes or adds any totals, or makes the bet lose on triples (as Sic Bo does), adjust the count: each triple is 1 way.

Any Double and Any Triple

ResultWays (of 216)Chance
Exactly two dice the same9041.67%
All three the same (any triple)62.78%
At least two the same9644.44%
All three different12055.56%

Our working: all three different is 6 × 5 × 4 = 120; triples are 6; the rest, 216 − 120 − 6 = 90, have exactly one pair.

Break-even payouts: Any Triple about 35 to 1; Any Double about 1.4 to 1 if it excludes triples, or 1.25 to 1 if it includes them. Read the bet’s description in the game’s help to see which applies.

What the multipliers change

  • They don’t change the dice. A total of 4 still comes up 3 times in 216 with or without Lightning.
  • They change the payout when they hit. If your winning spot was struck, your win is multiplied, up to 1000x according to Evolution.
  • Somebody pays for them. In multiplier games the boosts are usually funded through lower base payouts or a fee. Evolution’s Lightning Dice page doesn’t give the base paytable, so compare the in-game payout for each total with the break-even column above. The gap is your cost when no multiplier lands, which is most rounds.
  • The chance of being struck isn’t published. Evolution says two to four spots are struck, but not how they’re chosen or how often each value appears. Don’t assume every total has an equal chance.

A simple approach that holds up

  • Know what you’re buying. Middle totals win often and pay little; edge totals win rarely and depend on multipliers to pay big.
  • Read the paytable once. With the tables in this guide, a minute of checking tells you how much each bet costs.
  • Spread bets cost more than they look. Covering many totals means most of your chips lose every round, even when one wins.
  • Ignore streaks. Each drop is a fresh 216-way result. A total that hasn’t appeared for 50 rounds isn’t “due”.

Bonus money often counts at a reduced rate on live games, so read our wagering requirements guide first. For why rare, big payouts still return less on average, see our RTP and volatility explainer.

Where to find Lightning Dice

Lightning Dice sits in Evolution’s live dice section, alongside Live Craps (see our craps guide). When we checked our casino data on 31 October 2026, 30 of the casinos we review listed INR and included Evolution among their providers. Our reviews don’t record Lightning Dice by name, so search the lobby before you deposit. Our live casino guide covers the other live tables.

Play within limits

Lightning makes the game exciting, but the maths underneath doesn’t change. Set a session budget and a time limit before you start, and stop when you reach either. Our responsible gambling page has tools and support.

Frequently asked questions

How does Lightning Dice work?

Three dice are dropped through a transparent 'Lightning Tower' maze and you bet on their total, from 3 to 18. Evolution also lists Low, High, Any Double and Any Triple bets. After betting closes, two to four bet spots get Lightning multipliers of up to 1000x.

Which total comes up most often in Lightning Dice?

10 and 11. Each can be made 27 ways out of the 216 possible results of three dice, so each comes up 12.5% of the time. 3 and 18 are the rarest, 1 way each (0.46%).

How often does a Lightning multiplier hit my number?

Evolution says two to four bet spots are struck each round, but it doesn't publish how the spots or multiplier values are chosen. So the chance that your exact spot is struck and wins can't be worked out from public information.

Do multipliers change the odds of the dice?

No. Multipliers change how much a winning bet pays, not how often a total comes up. A total of 10 still comes up 27 times in 216 whatever the tower or the multipliers do.

How likely is a double or a triple with three dice?

Exactly two matching dice: 90 of 216 results (41.67%). All three the same: 6 of 216 (2.78%). At least two matching: 96 of 216 (44.44%). Check in the game whether Any Double also wins on a triple.
