Bac Bo Odds Explained: Dice Baccarat, Football Studio Dice and Mega Sic Bac

Bac Bo and other four-dice baccarat games worked out: how often Player, Banker and Tie win, the chance of each tied total, and what dice side bets really hit.

Guide, published

Bac Bo takes the idea of baccarat (two hands, highest score wins) and swaps the cards for dice. Each side gets two dice, the bigger total wins, and that’s it: no drawing rules, no third card. Because dice have no memory and no shoe, the maths is exact and short. This guide works it out for Evolution’s Bac Bo and for two close relatives, Evolution’s Football Studio Dice and Pragmatic Play’s Mega Sic Bac.

For card baccarat, see our baccarat odds guide. For the one-card version, see Dragon Tiger odds.

What the providers say

Evolution, Bac Bo. “Bac Bo is played with four dice instead of cards. The Player’s and Banker’s score is made up of the sum of two dice, automatically shaken in four individual shakers, two for each hand.” The dice stop in stages: “The Player’s dice will always stop first, followed by the Banker’s dice”, and “the hand with the highest two-dice total wins”. Evolution highlights “a great Tie bet that pays up 88 to 1” and says that on a tie “there are several different payouts depending on the tied dice result”.

Evolution, Football Studio Dice. Evolution describes it as Football Studio “with the added concept of the Bac Bo dice game”. HOME and AWAY each get “the sum of two dice”, and “the highest two-dice total wins”. The upper HOME and AWAY dice stop first, the lower ones “a few seconds later”, which Evolution calls “a game of two halves”. On a DRAW “there are several different payouts depending on the tied dice result, one of them being 80x”.

Pragmatic Play, Mega Sic Bac. “Four regular dice, two each for the Player and Banker, are rolled in individual shakers. The aim of the game is to predict which will achieve the highest two-dice total.” There are three main bets (Player, Banker, Tie) and 21 side bets on doubles, triples and quads. Random boosted payouts can reach 5x on Player or Banker, 88x on Tie and 5,000x on the Quads side bets.

What the public pages don’t say

None of the three pages publishes:

  • The main-bet payout for Player/Banker or HOME/AWAY.
  • What happens to a main bet on a tie. This matters most for the house edge (see below).
  • The full tie paytable, beyond the top figures quoted above.
  • An RTP figure.

The Help or Rules screen inside each game is the final word. We don’t fill in these gaps with figures from other websites.

How the numbers were worked out

Every chance in this guide is our own calculation, assuming four fair six-sided dice. Two dice give 36 equally likely results, and four dice give 6 × 6 × 6 × 6 = 1,296. We counted how many of those 1,296 results produce each outcome. None of these figures are published by Evolution or Pragmatic Play.

One side’s total: how two dice add up

Two-dice totalWays out of 36Chance
2 or 1212.78%
3 or 1125.56%
4 or 1038.33%
5 or 9411.11%
6 or 8513.89%
7616.67%

So 7 is the most common total for either side, and 2 and 12 are the rarest.

Player, Banker and Tie

Putting both sides together over all 1,296 results:

ResultWays out of 1,296Chance per round
Player wins57544.37%
Banker wins57544.37%
Tie14611.27%

Unlike card baccarat, where the Banker’s drawing rules give it a small edge, Bac Bo’s Player and Banker are mirror images. Neither side is “better”. The tie is also far more common than in baccarat: about one round in 8.9.

Which tie comes up?

A tie on a given total needs both sides to roll it, so you square the ways from the first table.

Tied totalWays out of 1,296Chance per roundFair odds for this exact tie
210.08%1,295 to 1
340.31%323 to 1
490.69%143 to 1
5161.23%80 to 1
6251.93%about 50.8 to 1
7362.78%35 to 1
8251.93%about 50.8 to 1
9161.23%80 to 1
1090.69%143 to 1
1140.31%323 to 1
1210.08%1,295 to 1

“Fair odds” means the payout at which a bet on that exact tie would break even over the long run. It’s a yardstick, not a paytable.

Two things follow from this table:

  • The 88 to 1 headline is for a rare result. Evolution says the Tie bet pays “up to 88 to 1”; the page doesn’t say which totals pay what. Whichever total carries the top payout, the extremes (2-2 and 12-12) together come up only 2 times in 1,296 rounds, so plan on seeing them rarely.
  • A tie of any kind happens 146 times in 1,296, so a single-payout “any tie” bet would need to pay about 7.9 to 1 just to break even. Bac Bo instead pays different amounts for different tied totals, which is why you need the in-game paytable to work out its real cost.

What a main bet costs

At a 1 to 1 payout, wins and losses between Player and Banker cancel out exactly, so the whole house edge comes from what you lose on ties. That gives a simple rule:

Cost of a Player or Banker bet = 11.27% × the share of your stake you lose on a tie.

Worked examples only, not Evolution’s rules. On a ₹100 bet paid at 1 to 1:

If, on a tie, you lose…Average loss per ₹100 (our calculation)
10% of the stakeabout ₹1.13
Half the stakeabout ₹5.63
The whole stakeabout ₹11.27

If the stake came back in full on a tie, a 1 to 1 bet would cost nothing, so a real table must keep something on ties or pay less than 1 to 1. Read the rules screen for that one line before you play. It decides whether the main bet is cheap or expensive.

Football Studio Dice: does the first half matter?

Football Studio Dice uses the same two-dice totals, so HOME and AWAY each win 44.37% of rounds and 11.27% are draws. What it adds is the “first half”: the upper die on each side stops first.

From our count of all 1,296 results, one side leads after the first half (its upper die is higher) in 41.67% of rounds, and the dice are level in 16.67%. When a side leads at half-time:

Final result for the side leading at half-timeChance (our calculation)
Wins74.07%
Draw10.19%
Loses (the comeback)15.74%

So comebacks happen, roughly one time in six for the trailing side. It’s fun to watch, but bets close before any dice stop, so the first half can’t change what you’ve already staked.

Mega Sic Bac side bets: doubles, triples and quads

Pragmatic Play lists six kinds of dice side bet: Doubles (one for each number, x6), Any Double, Triples (x6), Any Triple, Quads (x6) and Any Quad. Its page doesn’t list the paytable, and it describes the bets briefly (“two dice show the same specific number”, and so on).

The chances below are our calculation counted across all four dice, and “at least” that many (so a triple also counts as a double). The in-game rules define exactly which dice count and whether a triple also wins the Doubles bet, so treat these as a guide.

Side betWays out of 1,296Chance per roundFair odds
Any Double (at least two dice match)93672.22%about 0.38 to 1
Doubles, a chosen number (at least two of it)17113.19%about 6.6 to 1
Any Triple (at least three dice match)1269.72%about 9.3 to 1
Triples, a chosen number211.62%about 60.7 to 1
Any Quad (all four match)60.46%215 to 1
Quads, a chosen number10.08%1,295 to 1

The 5,000x top boosted payout Pragmatic Play mentions is attached to the Quads bets, the rarest results in the game: a chosen quad comes up once in 1,296 rounds on average, and even then the boost is random.

Common myths, checked against the maths

“Banker is the better bet, like in baccarat”

Not in dice baccarat. Both sides roll two identical dice, so each wins exactly 575 times in 1,296. Any difference in cost would come from the payout rules on the rules screen, not from the dice.

“The stats board shows which side is due”

Evolution says Bac Bo “offers numerous live gaming statistics for bets and game results”. Dice don’t remember the last round. A run of five Player wins doesn’t change the 44.37% chance for either side on the next roll. Treat the board as a record, not a forecast.

“Ties are rare, so the Tie bet is a long shot”

Ties are more common here than in most card games: 11.27% of rounds. What is rare is a tie on the extreme totals, and that’s where the biggest tie payouts sit.

Making a budget last

Dice rounds are quick. Example only: 100 rounds at ₹200 on Player is ₹20,000 staked. If a table kept 10% of the stake on ties, the long-run average cost would be about ₹225 (1.13%); if it kept half, about ₹1,126. A real session swings much more than that, up or down.

  • Read the tie rule first. It’s the single biggest factor in what the main bet costs.
  • Keep Tie and dice side bets small. They pay more because they hit less often.
  • Don’t chase boosts. Multipliers are random and land after betting closes.
  • Set a round limit as well as a money limit. Fast games eat budgets through volume.

Bonus funds rarely help at live tables, as many casinos count them at a low rate or not at all; our wagering requirements guide shows how to check. Our RTP and volatility explainer covers why big headline payouts usually return less on average.

Play within limits

Bac Bo is one of the simplest games in a live lobby, and its odds are fully known: 44.37% for each side, 11.27% for a tie. What you don’t see on the provider pages is the price, so read the rules screen, keep side bets small, decide your limit before the first roll and stop when you reach it. Frequently asked questions

What are the odds of winning on Player or Banker in Bac Bo?

Each side wins 575 of the 1,296 possible dice results, or about 44.37% of rounds. The other 11.27% are ties. Player and Banker are perfectly symmetrical, because both totals come from two fair dice. This is our calculation, not a provider figure.

How often is there a tie in Bac Bo?

146 of the 1,296 dice results are ties, about 11.27%, or roughly one round in 8.9. A tie on 7 is the most common (2.78% of rounds). A tie on 2 or on 12 is the rarest, each 1 in 1,296. These are our calculations.

What does the Bac Bo Tie bet pay?

Evolution's page says the Tie bet 'pays up to 88 to 1' and that there are 'several different payouts depending on the tied dice result'. The full tie paytable isn't on the public page, so check the Help screen in the game before you bet on it.

What is the house edge in Bac Bo?

It depends on what happens to Player and Banker bets on a tie and on the tie paytable, and Evolution's public page states neither. At a 1 to 1 payout, the cost of a main bet is 11.27% multiplied by the share of the stake you lose on a tie. Our worked examples are below.

Is Football Studio Dice the same as Bac Bo?

The maths is the same: each side is the sum of two dice and the higher total wins. Evolution calls it Football Studio with 'the added concept of the Bac Bo dice game', with HOME and AWAY instead of Player and Banker. Its draw payouts include one of 80x, according to Evolution.
