Lightning Roulette took a standard single-zero wheel and added a burst of random multipliers. Evolution later called it “the most successful table game in the last 20 years of online gaming”. XXXtreme Lightning Roulette is the louder sibling. It has the same wheel and the same basic idea, but more lucky numbers per round, bigger multipliers and a second strike that can push a single number to 2,000x.

Evolution launched it on 25 May 2022. The launch release says the game is aimed at “a subset of players who desire a more volatile Roulette game”. That one line explains most of what you need to know. This guide covers how a round works, what each lightning phase does, the odds in plain numbers, and how to keep a high-volatility game under control.

If you have not played the original, our Lightning Roulette guide covers the standard version, and roulette bets explained covers every bet on the layout.

The table and the wheel

Evolution’s page says the objective is to “predict the number on which the ball will land by placing one or more bets that cover that particular number”. The wheel has numbers 1–36 plus a single zero, so 37 pockets in total.

You can place the usual roulette bets: straight up, splits, streets, corners, lines, dozens, columns and the even-money bets. Any bet that covers the winning number wins. The twist is that only Straight Up bets can win a multiplied payout. Evolution’s page is explicit: “A Straight Up bet on a Lightning Number or Chain Lightning Number is required to win a multiplied payout.”

How a round plays out

1. Betting time

Place your chips as you would at any roulette table. Betting then closes.

2. Lightning round

Evolution generates one to five Lightning Numbers, each with a random multiplier from 50x to 500x. They are highlighted in the studio and in the betting interface. This part works the same as in Lightning Roulette.

3. Chain Lightning round

This is where XXXtreme starts to differ. A Chain Lightning round “can add up to nine additional lucky bet spots”, with Chain Lightning Multipliers shown in the interface. Together the Lightning Numbers and Chain Lightning Numbers can make up, but never exceed, ten lucky bet spots per round.

4. Double Strikes

Finally, a Double Strike can hit any of the lucky spots already chosen and raise its multiplier to between 600x and 2,000x. Evolution’s launch release says Double Strikes “can increase multipliers up to 2,000x”.

5. The spin

The dealer spins the ball. If it lands on a number you covered, you win. If that number is a lucky spot and you had a Straight Up bet on it, the Straight Up bet is paid at the won multiplier.

The standard game’s figures come from our Lightning Roulette guide. There, Evolution lists the non-multiplied straight-up payout as 29:1 rather than standard roulette’s 35:1. The public XXXtreme page does not give its own non-multiplied straight-up payout. Check the in-game paytable, because that figure is where the multipliers are paid for.

The odds, in plain numbers

These are our own calculations from the facts Evolution publishes. They assume a fair single-zero wheel with 37 equally likely pockets.

Any single number. A Straight Up bet wins with probability 1 ÷ 37 = 2.70%, or about once every 37 spins on average.

The winning number being a lucky spot. Lucky spots are drawn before the ball lands. If there are n lucky spots that round, the chance that the winning number is one of them is n ÷ 37:

Lucky spots this roundChance the winning number is lucky
12.70%
513.51%
10 (the maximum)27.03%

Hitting a multiplier on your own number. To collect a multiplier, your number must be both a lucky spot and the winning number. With a single Straight Up bet, the chance is still 1 in 37 for the win itself. Lightning only decides how much that win pays. Covering more numbers with Straight Up bets raises your chance of a multiplied win, but it also raises your total stake by the same proportion.

Evolution does not publish how often each multiplier level appears or how often Double Strikes hit. We have not guessed at those numbers.

What “more volatile” really means

Evolution designed the XXXtreme version for players who want bigger swings. In practice:

  • Long dry spells are normal. Most spins pay either nothing or an ordinary roulette payout.
  • A few rare hits carry the game’s value. A 2,000x Double Strike on your number is exactly the kind of result that is rare by design.
  • Budget for the swings. If you play many Straight Up bets, expect your balance to fall steadily between multiplied wins.

Our RTP and volatility guide explains why games built around rare big hits feel so different in a short session.

Practical tips

  1. Read the paytable first. Find the non-multiplied straight-up payout and the RTP in the Help screen before your first bet.
  2. Decide your Straight Up spread. More numbers means more chances at a multiplier but a bigger stake per spin. Pick a number of chips you can sustain for the session.
  3. Do not chase lucky numbers from earlier spins. Lightning Numbers are generated fresh every round.
  4. Use outside bets for steadier play. Red/black, odd/even and high/low never get multipliers, but they lose more slowly. Many players mix a few Straight Ups with them.
  5. Set a time limit as well as a money limit. Live roulette rounds are quick, and the light show is designed to keep you watching.

Who XXXtreme suits, and who it does not

  • It suits players who already enjoy Lightning Roulette, mostly bet Straight Up, and are comfortable with long runs of small or no wins in exchange for rare big hits.
  • It does not suit players who mainly bet red/black or dozens. Those bets never get multipliers, so the XXXtreme features add nothing for them. A standard single-zero table is simpler.
  • It does not suit a small budget spread over a long session. High volatility means your balance can fall a long way before a multiplier lands, if one lands at all.

Playing on mobile

The XXXtreme studio is busy. The wheel, the lightning effects and up to ten highlighted numbers all compete for space. On a phone:

  • Use landscape mode to see the full betting grid and the highlighted lucky spots.
  • Check your chip value before each round, since small screens make mis-taps easy.
  • Use a stable connection. Live streams use more data than RNG games, and a dropped connection during betting time can mean a missed round.

Before you play

XXXtreme Lightning Roulette is roulette with a much wider range of outcomes. It is exciting when a Double Strike lands, but it is designed for big swings. Set your budget, keep Straight Up stakes small, and stop when you hit your limit. Our casino reviews show which sites list Evolution among their providers. XXXtreme Lightning Roulette: common questions

What is the maximum win in XXXtreme Lightning Roulette?

Evolution says multipliers can reach up to 2,000x. Lightning Numbers get 50x to 500x, and Double Strikes can raise a lucky spot to between 600x and 2,000x. Multiplied payouts only apply to Straight Up bets on a lucky number.

How is XXXtreme Lightning Roulette different from Lightning Roulette?

Both strike one to five Lightning Numbers with 50x to 500x multipliers. The XXXtreme version adds a Chain Lightning round that can add up to nine more lucky bet spots (ten in total at most) and Double Strikes that can push multipliers to 600x–2,000x. Evolution describes it as aimed at players who want a more volatile roulette game.

Do outside bets like red/black get multipliers?

No. Evolution's page says a Straight Up bet on a Lightning Number or Chain Lightning Number is required to win a multiplied payout. Other bets are paid normally if they win.

What is the RTP and straight-up payout of XXXtreme Lightning Roulette?

Evolution's public pages for this game do not list the RTP or the non-multiplied straight-up payout. Open the paytable in the game's Help screen before you bet, because these numbers decide what the multipliers really cost you.
